Arkansas River

A couple of weeks ago i went down and paddled the Arkansas River with the Colorado White Water Association. We took over the KOA in Cotopaxi for two nights of camping, paddling, chillin by the campfire and drinking beer. The views of the Collegiate Peaks and the Sangre de Christo mountains were breathtaking. The trip home included a stop at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. Perfect...

Bike Parking- Colorado Style

A gang of us broke down and went for a ride out to Sloan's Lake a couple weeks ago dispite the icky weather. It was sunny and that keeps you pretty warm out here even if everything in sight is frozen. Even if you can't ride a bike every day out here i'm starting to appreciate the snow. Headed up to Winter Park to fall down a mountain some more. Woo Hoo!!
 

Blizzard!!- make that blizzardS...

I started this entry during the first blizzard of the season- we're on the verge of our 4th!!!!! In less than a month!!!! Tonight's low is going to be about 8. Cabin fever is setting in- i really need to get out and snowboard...
Anyhow- dispite all my whining about it, the snow is beautiful when it's fresh- you can barely hear a thing when you walk outside.

Denver

So if you haven't heard yet- i've moved to Denver Colorado. So far it is not hot, not humid, and noisy- quite a change from Washington DC. Here are a couple photos i've taken so far. I am currently house sitting for some friends who just finished renovation a beautiful bungalow near City Park. It is WAY more house than i need, but i'm enjoying it already!

I dragged all of my possessions out in my new car (dubbed the "mini-hummer") believe it or not everything i own (cat included) fit in the car. This photo was taken by my gracious host for the first night in Denver John Munoz. John is part of the extended Dorcas and Pat family unit (he is Pat's son). It's great to already know a couple people out here. John took me on my first ride in Denver- he showed me how to get to my new office and also pointed out to me two of the coolest things i've seen so far. In Confluence Park there are a couple little whitewater playspost (see photo) and he also took me to the local bike collective- hopefully i'll have time for both in the near future.

Scary-go-Round

Well- the Arlington Community Bike Ride is not exactly my favorite way to spend my Memorial Day weekend, BUT this year it turned out to be sort of fun. Not only did my co-worker Jeff have to do my old job of dealing with the cops, but I met Howard Connelly and his "bicycle carousel". Basically it's a frankenstein of bikes all welded together to create a kinetic sculpture that you can ride around in circles. You sort of have to ride it to appreciate it!

Bon Voyage Matt

This week we bid farewell (well- he only moved to Philly but....) to our dear paddling buddy Matt. Dorcas and Pat were kind enough to cook up a super tasty picnic which we ate every last bite of while we rested on the rocks at Yellow Falls. I'm looking forward to a paddling trip to PA with Matt....

The Shenendoah Staircase!

This past monday a whole crew played hookey and went to Harper's Ferry, WV to kayak the staircase. I swam Bull Falls once and ran it once. It was a beautiful day and we even had a completely fantastic Sam Adkins picnic...
